7 principles of Maintaining a Consistent Walk with God

It takes the agreement of two before they can walk together. Two people can walk together for a lifetime as long as they are both in agreement with each other.

Can two walk together, except they be agreed? Amos 3:3.

Here are some great keys to maintain a consistent walk with God

1. Humility

But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” James 4:6.

One of the greatest laws and principles of the kingdom for maintaining a consistent walk with God is humility.

Humility is not a weakness, it’s rare virtue for great and powerful people who wants to enjoy a good relationship with God.

God will not resist a sinner, He still wants everyone to be saved and redeemed. God will honor a sinner who humbles himself and come for repentance but He will resist a believer who is proud.

The Bible says “By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honor, and life”

Just by humility alone and fear of the Lord you will have legal access to these priceless assets of riches, honor and life.

Humility never looks down on anyone, it never diminishes anyone to the level of a nobody. Humility will make you treat everyone as special even more than gold.

Humility was the main thing that Jesus asked His disciples to learn from Him and that is what we must learn from Him too.

2. Abide

He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked. I John 2:6.

There is a normal saying that a river that forgets its source will soon dry up.

One of the secret to ever remain fresh and new is to abide. It’s only when you abide, you can bear fruits, it’s only when you abide, you can be productive, it’s only when you abide, that you can deliver.

Abide and tarry in the place of prayer, give attention to the ministry of the Word and worship. You don’t move until He tells you to move. You must abide, you must practice a lifestyle of communion and fellowship with God.

Jesus was never disconnected from the Father and the anointing upon Jesus was always fresh because He knows how to abide in Him.

Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me. John 15:4.

3. Obedience

Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. John 15:14.

God is looking for doers and not hearers. There are many hearers but few doers. If you want to be a friend of God and have a perfect walk with Him, obedience is a great factor. Obedience to His words, instructions, commandment and through the Holy Spirit is very essential.

Obedience brings you closer to Him, the more you obey Him, the more He draws you closer to Himself and also elevates you.

Obedience to the word of God is the proof that you love Him. To please Him, you must obey Him completely to the letters. Until your obedience is complete, there is no reward because partial obedience is no obedience at all.

4. Separated Life

Therefore “Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you.” II Corinthians 6:17.

To maintain a consistent walk with God, you must live a separated life. You must be separated from the things of the world, touch not unclean things, you might not have the freedom to do all things like others because you have been separated.

A woman who’s married is separated from all other men except her husband. Everything she does is to please her husband, the moment she begins to jump from one man to another, she’s no more faithful to herself and to her husband. Likewise, man as well.

To maintain a consistent walk with God, you must be separated so that you can live to please Him, or will you play harlot with God, or don’t you know that friendship with the world is enmity with God.

You want to maintain a perfect and consistent walk with God means you must be married to Him so that you can please Him. You must live a separated life, and stay unspotted from the world.

5. Death to self

but He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you [My lovingkindness and My mercy are more than enough—always available—regardless of the situation]; for [My] power is being perfected [and is completed and shows itself most effectively] in [your] weakness.” Therefore, I will all the more gladly boast in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ [may completely enfold me and] may dwell in me. 2 Corinthians 12:9.

In the Kingdom, death to self is not an option but an inescapable condition to remain relevant both time and in eternal.

Death to self means to surrender our, pride, self-glory, our will in order to allow Christ to live through us, to see the will of God carried out regardless of our qualifications and position. We must empty ourselves for the sake of manifesting His glory and power.

Christ, the Great Role Model of Self-denial, Christ had to die to self, to the fact that He was God almighty. He was the only person who had the opportunity to choose His parents, His place of birth, His circle of friends yet He humbled Himself and died to self-glory.

Christ also demonstrated that temptation is not the basis for demonstrating the supernatural power of God.

Can you imagine what it must have felt like to have your worst enemy come and challenge your identity, and you have to deny yourself three times and not react? Jesus knew what He had come to do, what His purpose and destiny were.

It was through death to flesh that the glory of God’s holiness was seen in the life of Jesus. If Christ must be glorified in our lives we must die to self, to the flesh, to worldliness, to carnal nature, to vain glory.

Death to self is not an event; it is a constant and continuous lifestyle that can only be carried out by the supernatural grace of God that’s why we must ask for grace if we want to walk perfectly with God.

6. Grace and Mercy (Ask and it shall be given)

For He says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.” So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy. Romans 9:15–16.

Walking with God is a choice, you can choose to walk away from Him you can also chose to walk with Him. To walk away from Him is to walk into eternal destruction but to walk with Him is to walk in to eternal life in heaven.

To walk with God perfectly, you need the grace and mercy of God. It is this grace and mercy that will sustain you when all other things seem not going as planned.

Without His grace and mercy, you might want to quit on the way, please don’t quit, you’re almost there. Just ask for His grace and mercy to accompany you for the journey ahead.

Before you know it, all obstacles would have been crushed and you will see a great light. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

7. Faith

Faith is simply obeying God and His Words. Without faith, it is impossible to please God. To maintain a sound consistent walk with God, FAITH is a major key.

8. Avoid sin at all Cost

Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 1 John 3:9.

We are to love the sinners so that we can one day eventually win their soul for Christ but we must not abide in sin, because God does not answer the prayer of sinners.

We can’t continue to play games with God by allowing sin to reign in our mortal body. God is holy and His eyes cannot behold iniquity.

When Jesus was on the cross, He was separated from the father because He was carrying the sin of the whole world. The father looked at His only begotten son and He saw all kinds of iniquities of men, then He had to turned His eyes away, then Jesus said eloi eloi lama sabachthani? My father, my father, why has thou forsaken me? Mark 15:34.

No matter who you are, sin will make God look away from you and separate Himself from you. Don’t let that to happen to you, don’t let God says depart from me ye workers of iniquity.

Don’t let yourself to be entangled with the pleasures of sin. What sin can only offer is destruction and eternal damnation.

Beloveth, anyone who is still practicing any kind of sin, cannot walk consistently with God. Sin is sin, it has no other name. One might think some sin are little but don’t also forget that a small loop hole can sink a mighty ship.

So beloved, if you you’re still living in sin or you’re still engaging in any act of sin, is high time you broke yourself off from every shackles of sin, invite Jesus into your heart now and accept Him as your Lord and Saviour. Then you can now begin a new walk with God and the Holy Spirit will come and dwell in you. Hallelujah!

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ continue to abide with us forever in Jesus name. Amen.

Shalom!
